eagle

The bald eagle was chosen in 1782 as a national symbol of the United States because of its long life, great strength and majestic appearance, and also because it was then believed that they only existed on this continent. Besides being a national symbol, bald eagles are one of our largest birds. They grow almost three feet tall, with a wingspan of close to seven feet! Big Bird has nothing on an eagle!

Why do we love eagles?

The eagle represents freedom. Living as they do, high atop mountains, amid the solitary grandeur that is nature, they have unlimited freedom. Legend has it that the eagle was used as a national symbol because, at one of the first battles of the Revolutionary War, the noise of the fighting awoke the slumbering eagles from up on high and they flew from their nests and circled about overhead of the fighting men. All the while, they were sounding their guttural cries, which caused some patriots to believe they were shrieking for Freedom. And thus, our national symbol was chosen.

Consider us the mother eagle of the home security industry

Eagles build the largest nest of all birds. It provides a fantastic place for which it to nurture its young eaglets. Probably the most fascinating thing about eagles is the way in which it gets these young eaglets to fly out of the nest. For weeks on end, the adult eagle brings food to the nest, providing everything that the growing birds could need to survive in one comfortable, safe place. It’s a real one-stop shop for them…for a little while, at least.

When the adult eagle determines that it’s time for the young eagles to fly, however, things get uncomfortable for them quickly. The mother will stop bringing food to them in the nest. Many times, she will instead fly around the nest with the food clenched firmly in her beak, thereby tempting the young eaglets to fly out of the nest to get the food from her. If those young eagles attempt to fly out of the nest and struggle, the mother bird will fly under them to keep them from falling, to keep them on course, and to provide them with a sense of security.
